Moving Takes the Edge Off Christmas

I've been erratic in posting anything and commenting on your posts lately, and for that, my sincere apologies.

It's just that we're in the middle of packing up and moving again. The 8th time in the last 7 years, as of last count.  Nothing special.  We just feel like shaking things up a bit because as you can see, life with a baby is gets a little too boring, and boring just doesn't sit well with us.

So... Last Sunday, hubs was like:

I'M BORED. LET'S MOVE AGAIN

and I was all,
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT, HUBS.  WE MUST PACK ALL OUR BELONGINGS AND MOVE AT ONCE!

and Yuna was all,

WAIT. WHAT? MOVING AGAIN? MY PARENTS ARE SO AWESOME!!

The magical moment made us burst into tears. It was really beautiful.

So yeah, that's why we're in the middle of moving.

You'd think by now, we've got this whole pack and move thing down, and we actually do, except that the timing of the move couldn't be more fucking perfect-- right in the middle of the BUSIEST. SEASON. EVER!  Hooray!  And since I am so smart, and no one can ever be as smart as me, I braved Target yesterday with cranky Yuna to buy some home decor, because I couldn't wait a second longer, and I just needed to do it while THOUSANDS are rushing to get their Christmas shopping done.

Pushing a stroller in one hand and a red Target cart with the other, I pushed my way through the mob, inching my way to the home section.  I vowed to get a few home essentials we really needed, and I successfully restrained myself from ransacking the aisles.  I would've made Shi proud.  All I had in my cart when I decided I was done, was an area rug the size of Texas, a very fragile mirrored side table, a couple of wall sconces, a few candle holders and a jewelry box.  I almost went crazy and bought a box of diapers.

Every year, we promise ourselves that this, for sure, is going to be our VERY LAST MOVE before buying a house, and it seems like it's starting to become an annual habit.  It's ridiculous. We say the magic words, "This is the last time, promise", find something we absolutely hate about the place, like a neighbor who won't shut the fuck up, then get out when our lease ends. We've been doing this for the past 7 years, and it has been fairly easy for both of us, except that this year, we got ourselves in a little situation of having a child and all, but no worries!  I made sure to purchase this Smart Baby Case I told you guys about to contain Yuna for the entire duration of our move.  We're moving a mile away from where we're at now, and this will be perfect for lugging her around after being told by the movers that they won't take responsibility for any breakage even if we mark her box as fragile, so there's that.

Anyway, who wants to place bets on us really buying a house in January 2012?  Shi's a 100% sure we'll be purchasing our first house by then, but I have this lingering feeling that we'll be moving again.  What do you think?

Ahh moving right now would kill me. I don't know how anyone moves with kids really. That little case may contain the kid but what about all shit that goes with it?!? Good luck, hang in there. BTW owning a house sucks. When you get sick of it, you can't just up and move. We're stuck in ours.

Again??? I don't think I've ever met anyone who moves as much as you guys. Good luck and don't forget to buzz me your new addy.

Good idea. You don't want to stagnate, after all . . . ;-)

(Good luck & Merry Christmas!)

Yeah, what Ashley said...you're better off renting...we're paying a bazillion dollars to rent a 1100 shithole that doesn't even have a linen closet. I walked into Michaels today to get some nonessentials and turned around and walked right out when I saw the line...I guess you really needed those wall sconces. XOXO

That picture is so. unbelievably. cute. (The one of the baby, not the baby containment device.) We've been stuck in our house for 3+ years. Do you want it? We could trade and you could move again.

OMG!I can totally relate! We've moved 3 times this year. It has been an addiction. But I've grown dizzy with all the moving now. I hope we'll stay longer in our new home this time. Good luck!

If I had to move with my toddler over Christmas, I'm sure I'd blow my brains out! You must have nerves of steel! But to answer your question about whether or not you'll be buying a house, I'd have to say it's up to you and Shi. If buying is a priority, you'll make it happen. Plain and simple. Don't let the thought of owning freak you out. That's my two cents. And P.S. your daughter is beautiful!

I have tbis friend who is really annoying because she's always like, "Think positive!" But I say these annoying words to you now: "Think positive!"...yes, you have my permission to find me and kick me in the shins.

Sometimes moving multiple times in as many multiple years is like a drug addiction. There is always the little voice in the back of the head that says,"It's OK if you don't like this place. Just sit tight because we will move soon." You have to break the cycle...like participating in an intervention. But I say this knowing we will probably be moving in a few years.

So maybe you shouldn't listen to me.

Some women buy shoes. I buy houses. I love to move. Just when life gets mundane and the drama slows down I start having dreams about real estate. Seriously.

And we always close sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Always.

That baby luggage should work just fine. Seal it good with duct tape and write fragile on the top with a Sharpie.

We just moved too - right after Christmas - and it was crazy! I warned my husband it would be & I don't think he believed me until the last moving night!
Things have settled down, and now I'm starting a new project. I'm putting the finishing touches on a new course called "How To Potty Train Your Kid," and want to make sure that I don't leave anything out. Will you let me know your biggest question about potty training your child? You will be entered into a drawing to get a free copy of our new course before we release it.

I just randomly came across your blog and, woman - you're hilarious! I'm sad that I seem to have come across your blog when you're in some kind of a lull since your last post was 3 and a half months ago... hmmm... I will certainly check back every once in a while to see if you've started writing again. :) I really enjoy your writing.

This is unrelated to this particular post but thought that your readers might find this interesting -

We're a group of students at Stanford University. As part of a class project, we decided to profile Revolution Foods which provides healthy organic meals to kids in school cafeterias. The organization was started a few years ago by two amazing women and we were pretty excited about their story, so we decided to create a little video to help the organization along. Here’s the link: http://bit.ly/RevFoods

Thought you’d be interested to learn more about them, and would love if you could share it with your readers!

Thanks so much!
